Characters as Friends

Are characters your friends? How important is it that you relate to the character in a book? And what makes you relate to that character? These questions led to a debate between myself and author Susan Schreyer about character development. If you click on the blog post tab above you’ll be able to read more. We talk about the differences between feeling like a character is a friend, the character having traits we relate to, and manipulating those traits to draw a reader more fully in to a story. If you visit the blog, feel free to leave comments. I’d love to hear what it is about a character that keeps you reading.
